Comforting Bible Verses for Peace, Hope & Strength

September 2, 2026

Life is tough. Sad things will occur. We will be afraid.

We will be lonely.

We will be exhausted.

During this time, the Bible reminds us that God is with us. He will be faithful. He will listen when we cry out to him.

Bible verses can make you slow down. They can bring you back to remember God’s promises. They can help you give your fears to God.

Perhaps life has thrown you a curve or two. Maybe it has thrown someone you love a few. Whatever it is, the Word of God is full of hope, peace and encouragement.

What Does the Bible Say About Comfort?

No where does the Bible promise us we will not suffer. But it does promise us that God is there with us. And that He provides us with strength.

The Bible tells us the God of comfort is also the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). This is genuine comfort. It is not a band-aid but rather placing faith in God’s character, His promises and His provision.

Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Jesus- Matthew 11:28 When we’re tired of the soul, Jesus wants us to come to Him.

Bible Verses That Give Comfort

Psalm 23:4 – When darkness closes in, God Is With You. If you walk into a dark room, God is still there, waiting just to help.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.

David was afraid. He went through dark times. But he was never alone.

God was always with him.

Use this verse to remember that going through rough times does not mean God has left you.

Psalm 34:18 – God Is Near the Brokenhearted

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

If you are in pain, this is a great promise. God is close. The Bible does not say ‘Put on your brave face’, it says ‘God is close to you’.

Isaiah 41:10 – Do not be afraid

“Fear not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God.”

God has promised to stay with us. He will give us strength and help. Whenever you are afraid, this verse will lead you to God.

Matthew 11:28 – Jesus Gives Rest

I am here for all the fatigued and weighed down. Let me carry your burdens.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened. Jesus call the to rest when you are exhausted on the inside.

John 14:27 – Jesus Gives Peace

‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you’.

Jesus spoke this to His friends as He left them. His peace isn’t easy. It’s here with us even through the uncertain times.

Romans 8:38-39 – Nothing Can Take God’s Love Away

Paul lets us know that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Not death. Not life. Not anything.

This next part is a great comfort. Things will get tough but God’s love will never end.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 -God Comforts Us

Paul describes God as “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.”

God comforts us when we are hurting, and then we are able to comfort other people. Comfort is something God gives us and something we are able to give to other people.

Philippians 4:6-7 – Give Your Worries to God

This verse kind of says don’t get to stressed about it. Instead just pray. Talk to God and tell him what you need and thank him for it. Then Paul describes “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding”.

That doesn’t mean we will never be worried. It just means we can take our worry to God.
